GTCC To Host Free Cultivating Creativity And Community Workshops

Published on: September 16, 2021

JAMESTOWN, N.C. (Sept. 16, 2021) – Beginning, Sept. 17 and thanks to the 2021 Sears Endowed Teaching Chair Grant, Guilford Technical Community College will host the Cultivating Creativity and Community Workshops Series.

Open to GTCC students, faculty, alumni, and community members the goal of the free workshops is to build a pathway for professional development while introducing a model for community arts education and cultivating an engaging environment for collaboration and innovation.

The workshops were created and facilitated by Patricia Drummond, a visual arts instructor in GTCC’s Creative and Performing Arts Department. Drummond was recently awarded the 2021 Gladys S. Sears Endowed Teaching Chair, and the workshops are a product of that award. A portion of the Sears Endowed Teaching Chair Grant, which accompanies the award, will be used to fund the workshops.

"My family is so pleased that Patricia is able to share her considerable talent with the GTCC family and beyond,” said donor Marcia Sears Regan. It's wonderful that she is using a portion of the award to provide these art education workshops. Using so many different mediums in creative ways is a great example in how to nurture artistic expression.”

The free workshops, held on the Jamestown Campus in Gerald Hall, Room 213, are open to GTCC students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community.

To register for a workshop, email Patricia Drummond, pddrummond@gtcc.edu.

Supplies are not needed to attend, however a list of helpful materials will be provided when participants register. For the Visual Arts classes, students are welcome to bring items to recycle such as fabric, thread, yarn, paint, old books with images, magazines, art related materials, etc.
